Job Description Summary

About URI:

The University of Rhode Island enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs and is the State’s flagship public research university, as well as the land grant and sea grant university, for the state of Rhode Island. The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston, and the Bay Campus is located in Narragansett. Both campuses are near major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. URI is just 30 minutes from Providence, RI and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Coordinate all programs for the Engineering for Democracy Institute (EDI). Direct the implementation of multiple grant-funded programs and help develop and write grant proposals to fund the mission and goals of EDI from federal, local, and private sources. Develop and maintain new and existing business models within the framework of the university. Work directly with students to assist in furthering their academic goals within the framework of EDI.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate all outward-facing programs in the area of elections for EDI.

Plan and develop innovative workshops, seminars, programs, and events for the integration and coordination of EDI’s services and products with the needs of election officials and election experts; including recruitment of panelists and guest speakers, developing marketing strategies and materials, maintaining registration lists and regular contact with past participants to leverage current contacts within the engineering, STEM, and elections communities across the country/world.

Work directly with the EDI Director, Associate Director, Assistant Director, and other EDI and university administrative staff in developing and maintaining funding opportunities and additional connections within the election community.

Oversee grant and other budgets – 101, 401, and 500 and additional accounts, as needed.

Coordinate staff, students, and volunteers; work schedules, meetings, travel, and training.

Maintain employment and financial records in collaboration with other EDI and department staff.

Plan and implement an institute-wide business system for the advancement of EDI’s service goals, including a paid-tier service model, invoicing, reconciling, and budgeting.

Liaise between EDI and various government and private groups, as well as volunteers, and provide excellent customer service by having a thorough understanding of various election processes, directives, laws, regulations, and services.

Attend and participate in meetings, conferences, and data collection related to elections and voting, including travel, if necessary.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Contribute to the overall success of the Engineering for Democracy Institute by performing other related duties as assigned.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers, printers, word processing, database management and spreadsheet software. Microsoft 365. Google Suite. Communication and video conferencing software. SIS systems.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Studies, Social Work, Public Administration, or related field.

2. Minimum of five years’ experience in higher education.

3. Minimum of three years’ experience with elections.

4. Demonstrated experience in event planning, coordination, and implementation.

5. Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

6. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

7. Demonstrated presentation skills.

8. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft 365 and/or Google Suite.

9. Demonstrated experience with PeopleSoft or related SIS system.

10. Demonstrated working knowledge of fiscal and personnel management, contract administration, and program planning and development.

11. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with diverse constituents, (i.e.; clients, service deliverers, and funders).

12. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
